Navigating enormous change: What really happens to you

by | Sep 2, 2024

I’m in a time of transition. Can you relate? What is happening in your world right now?

Are you moving from one phase of your life or career to a completely new one?

On my end, I’m experiencing transitions on multiple levels. On a personal level, my 17-year-old son is starting his senior year of high school. You can imagine we are preparing for his move to college. Knock on wood–if all goes well. This means that life as I know it — and as we know it — will change drastically.

Embracing the Emotional Spectrum of Change

Change can bring about excitement or stir up much uncertainty, potentially even anxiety, because there are so many unknowns.

I invite you to notice if there is a specific pattern you experience when change is on the horizon.

For me, I become very organized. I start planning everything that needs to happen after my son’s graduation and subsequent college move. I think about what I’ll do next and consider logistics like moving — as my mother and I plan to move together.

I noticed I put on my project manager hat, which is very handy. But beyond logistics, I also lean into the emotions of transitioning.

What excites me about starting anew?

What brings uncertainty, and what aspects of my life will be impacted? For instance, my work.

When I sense impending change, I usually need to retreat, be quiet, journal, and meditate. That’s where I gravitate.

What about you? What patterns have you noticed when you’re transitioning?

Do you find yourself pushing away, getting curious and excited, or deeply involved in logistics?

As it relates to relationships, I explore lasting versus non-lasting relationships. It’s a time for self-exploration, and I do all I can to avoid letting fear prevent me from realizing my dreams or desires.

Stepping into this space, ask yourself:

What’s most important for you when you sit in that space?

What is your biggest desire?

Career Transitions: A Time for Excitement, Hesitation?

If you’re transitioning in your career, it’s an opportune time to explore new opportunities.

What could a new role mean for you and your team?

What would a new level of responsibility bring?

It’s often exciting but can also feel contracting, making you hesitant.

Wherever you find yourself, give yourself grace and forgiveness. Allow yourself to feel whatever you’re feeling, and become mindful about how you show up during this space.

If the transition feels overwhelming and you’re stuck in your head, I invite you to drop into your heart.

How?

Close your eyes and envision the transition has already occurred.

Imagine living your best life—what does that look and feel like? What do you become now that you are in this new part of your life?

Life transitions, be they personal or career-oriented, often come with lessons.

Whether it’s a divorce, an ended relationship, or the loss of a loved one, ask yourself: what is the gift for me in this situation?

What am I here to learn and experience that will allow me to live my purpose?

Time for quiet reflection, journaling, and listening to your inner spirit are crucial. The answers to your questions are within you.

Trust the process, even if the message initially doesn’t seem real. It’s often true that where you are now may not be ready to receive the message fully, but let it land and stay with it.

As I navigate my transition, I’m here to remind you that we are interconnected. Our energies connect us, and by elevating our vibrations together, we support each other on this journey we call life.
