What will your 10-year vision look like and what will you need to create it

by | Jun 24, 2024

Do you find yourself in a transitional phase of your life and career?

From my perspective, life has been pedal to the metal for so long, and now like me, you may be reaching that stage where the pace shifts. The kids may be getting older and moving on to live their lives, and you might wonder what the next chapter or decade could look like, both professionally and personally.

Whether you’re nurturing a relationship or focusing on creating lasting memories and pursuing your passions, we all share a common desire to craft a fulfilling future. Over the halfway point, I find myself contemplating just that at this juncture in my life.

Embracing the Next Chapter

Almost eight years ago, I sat with my mentor, Fabienne Fredrickson. She helped me craft an incredible vision for what my business could be, the impact we could create, and how I could make my vision a reality. All of that, which was so far away from where I was back then, is my reality now!

I spent over 26 years working as a professional and leader in financial services and technology, and in 2017, I transitioned my career. It was the right decision for my family and son, Kyle.

Today, as I look toward the future, I am driven by a desire to continue growing and making an impact. Simultaneously, I feel a pull to ground myself in these questions:

What has a purpose for me today?

How can I focus on what truly holds meaning for me?

I want to ensure that I spend the latter half of my life on activities and projects that enrich my existence and help me fully express myself.

These questions are vital as I approach a phase where retirement looms not too far away, likely ten more years if we go by societal norms. Yet, I don’t see myself fully retiring. Reflecting on the next decade, it dawns on me that ten years is not an insignificant amount of time.

What, then, will my life look like during this period?

How can I create what my mentor calls “my most delicious life?”

These considerations encompass my career, personal life, and the legacy I wish to leave behind.

The Importance of Vision and Legacy

I’ve recently been reading a book by Steve Leder, “For You When I’m Gone.” It presents twelve questions to help you build a living story for your loved ones and urges you to live fully in the present.

For those of us deeply invested in our industries—subject matter experts and leaders—who are excited to start each day, congratulations on finding your passion. But for those still searching or ready for a new challenge, it’s a call to reflection.

Reflecting on Your Future

Where do you want to be ten years from now, and what steps do you need to take today to realize that vision? This inquiry doesn’t have to be a solitary endeavor.

Over the years, I’ve found clarity and breakthroughs when guided by coaches and mentors like Fabienne. The support and breakthroughs I experienced during those sessions are invaluable.

I want to extend the same opportunity to you with something I’ve developed for our valued community members.

Introducing the VIP Day Experience

As your leadership coach and career strategist, I crafted the exclusive VIP day to help you amplify an incredible vision for the next decade. Together, we’ll identify the obstacles hindering this vision and formulate an actionable plan that starts immediately.
