If you’ve ever grappled with imposter syndrome or felt that inner voice of self-doubt whispering that you aren’t enough, you’re not alone.
As leaders, our journeys are full of challenges and inner dragons waiting to be slain. Whether at the helm of a major organization or steering your own life and career, overcoming these fears is crucial.
Today, I want to share three powerful strategies I use to shift from self-doubt and live a life led by purpose and mission.
Strategy #1: Surround Yourself with Encouraging People
The people you surround yourself with can profoundly impact your mindset.
Surrounding yourself with people who uplift, mentor, and support you is key to overcoming self-doubt. Unfortunately, the opposite is true too–if the company you keep drags you down, it will be nearly impossible to feel confident and empowered.
I have been incredibly fortunate to learn from remarkable mentors like Dean Grasiozi, Tony Robbins, Fabienne Fredrickson, and others. These mentors and their communities have been pivotal in my journey, offering perspectives, insights, wisdom, and encouragement.
When you surround yourself with a community that shares your aspirations, their positivity and shared experiences can uplift you. This collective encouragement creates a domino effect; my life improves as I learn new strategies and apply them. This, in turn, benefits the people around me, including my community and clients.
What’s possible for you in this fertile environment? vs. living in the sea of nay-sayers?
If you struggle to ask for help, remember you’re not alone; admitting we need support is the first step. Give yourself the grace to grow.
Any loneliness you might feel on this journey can be alleviated by allowing others to see your strengths, even when you can’t see them yourself.
Strategy #2: Shift Your Mindset
How often do you worry or question your ability to achieve your goals?
Here’s a mindset shift that has profoundly helped me:
Believe that what you desire is already done.
When you internalize this belief, you allow yourself to breathe a little easier. You trust in the process.
For me, scaling ExecutiveBound to touch the lives of millions of women isn’t a distant dream—it’s a pre-existing reality waiting for me to catch up to it. I can take daily constructive actions without being consumed by worry and exhaustion. This mindset frees me to lean into my resources and take one day at a time, knowing I am supported.
Adapting this belief doesn’t mean you forgo action. On the contrary, you still need to take steps toward your goals; it’s about understanding that the vision is already there, and your journey is one of catching up to it.
This shift from questioning to acknowledging your capabilities can fundamentally alter your approach to the challenges you face along the way and help you keep your tank full to keep moving forward.
Strategy #3: Focus on Your Mission
We often inflate our fears, turning them into insurmountable dragons when, in reality, they are but stepping stones to our next level. Envisioning the worst-case scenarios traps us in a cycle of fear and anxiety. Instead, let’s refocus on our mission.
Your purpose on this planet is bigger than the obstacles you face.
By pouring your energy into your mission, you begin to see the positive ripple effects of your actions on those around you.
Understanding that my purpose includes empowering women and leaders and helping them realize their potential makes the fears seem small. The energy shifts from a paralyzing focus on what can go wrong to a renewed concentration on the impact I can make.
When I lean into this mission-driven mindset, the fears melt away. It doesn’t mean challenges disappear; they no longer dictate my actions. Every level brings its own hurdles, but we must keep moving forward and not let those fears dictate our journey.
How You Can Take Action Today
What is your #1 takeaway from these three strategies?
If these strategies resonate with you, journal what it would take to slay your dragons and replace self-doubt with faith in yourself and your abilities.
One overarching lesson I’d like to instill in you today is the importance of investing in yourself. If you don’t trust that you can achieve your goals, you’re less likely to invest time, resources, or energy into your personal growth. This investment isn’t just for you—it benefits everyone around you.
Waiting for the “right time” is a trap. That perfect moment may never come, but today is always available to you. Taking action now means prioritizing yourself and, by extension, better serving your family and professional life.
