How 3 Bold Shifts Can Help You Overcome Being Stuck

What would happen if the way you’ve been leading—what’s gotten you this far—is the very thing holding you back from what’s next?

I recently spent three full days with my business coach, Fabienne, and about 100 other business owners doing a deep dive into mindset. And while I could give you a dozen insights, three stood out so strongly I felt called to share them with you today. These aren’t motivational mantras. They’re the foundation of transformative leadership, the kind that doesn’t burn out but expands.

Whether you’re leading a high-stakes division in financial services or scaling innovation in a STEM-driven firm, these mindset shifts will challenge you to pause, reflect, and recalibrate how you lead and live.

And they’re especially relevant if you’re responsible for developing others.

Let’s dive in.

A Vision Bigger Than a Quarter

In our coaching sessions, cohorts, masterclasses, keynotes, and other leadership solutions, we always hone in on one question: What’s your vision?

Not your to-do list. Not your next deliverable. I’m talking about the vision that stretches you, the one that makes you feel something when you say it out loud.

So many of us leaders are stuck in the now, solving for today’s emergencies, reacting to change, managing risk. Understandable. Yet without a big vision that energizes our work, the best we can do is stay afloat.

When’s the last time you asked yourself: If I could design the most fulfilling version of my leadership, my career, my impact, what would it look like?

Suspend disbelief. Like watching a Mission Impossible movie, let yourself enjoy the possibility of what could be.

And you’re not alone. Some of the most talented people can resist this step. They tell themselves it’s unrealistic. But that’s exactly why it matters. Because what you can’t even admit to wanting, you’ll never build.

In organizations, it’s easy to lose sight of this. Yet developing your leaders without helping them clarify their personal vision is like installing software on outdated hardware. It might function, but it won’t optimize.

That’s why in every tailored solution we deliver at ExecutiveBound, we anchor development in a bold, personal leadership vision.

Because when the vision is clear, the strategy becomes magnetic.

Your Beliefs Are Running the Show

Once you’ve connected to your vision, there’s a second shift that often gets overlooked in traditional leadership development: your beliefs.

This one is huge.

You can train a leader in executive presence, influence, and communication. However, if deep down they don’t believe their voice matters, that training won’t stick.

With love, this is why so many talented professionals stall. They’re skilled, they’re smart, they’ve done the work, however, they hold subconscious beliefs that whisper, “I’m not ready,” “I’m not good enough,” or “I’m not that kind of leader.”

I’ve seen this with C-suite executives, senior VPs, and fast-rising directors alike.

Our beliefs drive our actions, or our inaction. And many of those beliefs were formed long before we stepped into our leadership roles.

Maybe as a child, you were told to only speak when spoken to. Maybe you learned to keep your head down to stay safe. Now, even with the title and the responsibility, part of you still plays small.

That’s not a personality flaw. It’s a pattern. And like any pattern, it can be shifted.

Try this: journal your beliefs about yourself as a leader, about your team, and about what’s possible in your role. Then, place an “E” next to the ones that feel empowering. And write a “D” for the ones that shrink you and feel disempowering.

We do this reflection with our ExecutiveBound clients one-on-one, in our cohorts, and even at our self-care retreats. Because if you want sustainable leadership development and transformation, not hype, not burnout, you must start with belief congruent between what you say you want and your beliefs about it.

Action is the Real Litmus Test

The final shift is the one most leaders try to skip ahead to: action.

But here’s what I’ve learned over more than 30 years in the business world: action without aligned belief and vision leads to either burnout or stagnation.

You can set bold goals, take massive action, and still feel stuck. Why? Because something underneath is pressing on the brakes.

On the flip side, when your vision excites you and your beliefs support you, action becomes inevitable. You stop hesitating. You stop second-guessing. You begin to create instead of overthinking.

I’ve witnessed this repeatedly during our leadership intensives: once someone reconnects to their personal vision and rewires what they believe is possible, they pitch new ideas, lead differently, speak more boldly in meetings, and inspire their teams to rise with them.

If your leaders, or you, are constantly in motion but rarely making traction, this is the reset–alignment.

And here’s what’s exciting: the alignment between vision, belief, and action creates measurable ROI.

According to Gallup’s 2024 State of the Global Workplace Report, managers still influence up to 70% of the variance in team engagement, reaffirming that leadership effectiveness isn’t simply about technical skills. It’s about mindset, clarity, and confidence.

When organizations invest in developing leaders from the inside out, equipping them to lead with purpose, communicate with impact, and build trust, the ripple effect on performance, retention, and culture is undeniable.

So now let’s get personal. On a scale from 1 to 10…

  • uncheckedHow clear is your leadership vision?
  • uncheckedHow aligned and empowered are your beliefs with that vision?
  • uncheckedHow bold are your actions toward your vision, really?

And what would be possible if these three were congruent?

That’s what we support our partners and clients with: co-creating environments where we develop leaders not only for business growth, but for sustainable confidence and influence.

At ExecutiveBound, we empower organizations and leaders in financial services and STEM to develop critical leadership skills and deliver business growth without burnout through our tailored solutions and the C.A.R.E.S. Leadership Success System.

If you or your organization is ready to explore what aligned, confident leadership could look like in practice, let’s connect. Schedule a Discovery Session with our team, and together we’ll clarify your vision, identify your top leadership challenges, and map out the strategies, tools, and support that will help you realize that vision, without burnout.

It would be my honor to walk alongside you as your journey partner. We believe in your leadership, your impact, and what’s possible when you’re fully supported.

Lead with purpose, live with joy!
